My Favorite Hidden Gems Around Northeast Indiana

Aug 18, 2026

One of my favorite things about living in Northeast Indiana is that there's always something new to discover. While Fort Wayne has plenty of well-known attractions, some of the best places are the ones that don't always make the "must-see" lists.

Whether you're new to the area or you've lived here for years, here are a few hidden gems that I think are worth checking out.

Bicentennial Woods

If you're looking for a quiet place to take a walk, Bicentennial Woods is one of my favorites. The trails are peaceful, the trees provide plenty of shade, and it's a great spot to slow down and enjoy nature.

The Landing

The Landing has quickly become one of the most vibrant areas in downtown Fort Wayne. With locally owned restaurants, unique shops, and beautiful historic buildings, it's the perfect place to spend an afternoon or evening.

Grab dinner, enjoy a cup of coffee, or simply take a stroll and soak in the atmosphere.

Union Street Market

If you haven't visited Union Street Market yet, add it to your weekend plans. It's a fun way to support local businesses while enjoying a variety of food vendors and unique products—all under one roof.

Metea County Park

Metea County Park offers beautiful trails, wildlife, and plenty of opportunities to get outside. It's a great place for families, photographers, or anyone who enjoys a peaceful afternoon in nature.

Auburn

Just a short drive north of Fort Wayne, Auburn is full of charm. Browse the downtown boutiques, grab lunch at a local restaurant, or visit one of the area's museums. It's an easy day trip that always feels like a getaway.

Cedar Creek

If you're looking for a relaxing afternoon on the water, consider kayaking or canoeing along Cedar Creek. It's one of those experiences that reminds you just how beautiful Northeast Indiana can be.

Local Coffee Shops

One of my favorite ways to explore a community is by visiting locally owned coffee shops. Places like Fortezza Coffee, Firefly Coffee House, and The Bean have their own personalities and are great spots to meet friends or catch up on work while supporting local businesses.

Why I Love Calling Northeast Indiana Home

It's easy to focus on the big attractions, but I think it's the smaller places that make a community feel special. Whether it's discovering a new walking trail, trying a family-owned restaurant, or spending a Saturday exploring a nearby town, these experiences are what make Northeast Indiana feel like home.

If you're thinking about making this area your home, I hope you'll take some time to explore everything it has to offer. You just might find a few favorite spots of your own.
