My Favorite Places to Take Out-of-Town Guests in Fort Wayne
Whenever friends or family come to visit from out of town, I always get the same question:
"So... what should we do while we're here?"
I love that question because Fort Wayne has so much to offer. Whether you're visiting for a weekend or you've lived here your whole life, there's always something new to discover.
From beautiful parks to local restaurants and family-friendly attractions, here are a few of my favorite places to share with out-of-town guests.
Start with Downtown
If someone has never been to Fort Wayne before, downtown is always my first stop.
Over the past several years, it's become such a vibrant place to spend an afternoon or evening.
I love walking around, grabbing a coffee, exploring local shops, and simply enjoying the energy of the city.
If the weather is nice, we'll usually make our way to Promenade Park. It's one of my favorite places to relax, take a walk along the river, or let kids burn off some energy on the playground.
Catch a TinCaps Game
You don't have to be a huge baseball fan to enjoy a night at the ballpark.
A game featuring the Fort Wayne TinCaps is one of my favorite ways to introduce visitors to Fort Wayne.
There's something about the atmosphere that just feels like summer.
The downtown setting, great food, family-friendly entertainment, and community spirit make it a fun experience for everyone.
Spend the Day at the Zoo
If there are kids in town—or even adults who enjoy animals—the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo is always on my list.
It's consistently recognized as one of the top zoos in the country, and it's easy to see why.
It's clean, beautifully maintained, and offers something for every age. Even if you've been before, it's worth visiting again.
Explore Our Parks and Trails
One of the things I appreciate most about Fort Wayne is how many opportunities there are to enjoy the outdoors.
Depending on the day, we might visit:
Lindenwood Nature Preserve
Franke Park
LC Nature Park
Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk, a family picnic, or just a chance to unplug for a little while, these spots showcase another side of our community.
Grab Something Sweet
No visit is complete without dessert.
Fort Wayne has plenty of great options, but I always enjoy introducing guests to a few local favorites.
Whether it's an ice cream cone on a warm summer evening or a sweet treat after dinner, it's one of those simple traditions that always makes a visit a little more memorable.
Shop Local
One of my favorite ways to spend a Saturday is exploring local businesses.
From the YLNI Farmers Market to locally owned boutiques and specialty shops, there are so many businesses that make Fort Wayne unique.
Shopping local isn't just fun—it also supports the people who help make our community such a great place to live.
Why I Love Sharing Fort Wayne
The best part about showing people around isn't checking attractions off a list.
It's seeing them realize what so many of us already know.
Fort Wayne is welcoming.
It's growing.
It's family-friendly.
And it's a place where people genuinely enjoy living.
Whether someone is here for a weekend or thinking about putting down roots, I love helping them experience the community that has become home for so many of us.
Final Thoughts
Every city has places worth visiting, but what makes Fort Wayne special is the people, the local businesses, the parks, and the sense of community you find around every corner.
If you have friends or family visiting this summer, take the opportunity to play tourist for a day. You might even discover a new favorite spot yourself.
And if you're thinking about making Fort Wayne home, I'd love to help you get to know the community even better.
